Before joining The Cohen Group, Ms. Julianna Cavano served for more than eight years at the State Department. She most recently served in the Office of the Under Secretary for Arms Control and International Security where she was responsible for the Political-Military Affairs Bureau portfolio.  This included the Office’s oversight of foreign military sales, direct commercial sales, and security assistance as well as participation in the NATO Summit Defense Industry Forum and the United Nations General Assembly High Level Week. 

Previously, Ms. Cavano served in the Bureaus of Political-Military Affairs and International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs, overseeing security assistance policy and programs. Ms. Cavano developed multilateral and regional strategies for counternarcotics policy in Latin America, managed relationships throughout the US interagency, and led the implementation of more than $7 billion of foreign military financing in the Middle East.  

While serving in US Embassy Madrid, she covered the political-military portfolio and was the State Department’s point person in negotiations with Spain to extend the joint management contract of the US space station in Madrid. 

Ms. Cavano is the recipient of multiple Superior and Meritorious honor awards at the State Department.  She holds a bachelor’s degree from American University in International Studies and a minor in Public Communications. She is an American University Swim and Dive team alumnae and a proud Jersey Shore native.
