Associate Vice President – Middle East Experience

The Cohen Group’s Middle East Practice is seeking candidates who bring a strong Middle East expertise and skillset to join our client service team in Washington, DC to advise clients on geopolitical, economic, and regulatory issues impacting their business interests in the region. Ideal candidates will have at least 10 years of relevant experience working on Middle East foreign policy and/or business issues to lead and support client teams. Roles and responsibilities vary, depending on the size of the team and scope of our support to the client.

Position Location

  • This position is based in Washington, DC.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Advanced degree and at least 10 years of practical experience, including working on US-Middle East public policy or private sector issues and/or work experience in the region.
  • An interest in working across a variety of sectors, including but not limited to, aerospace, defense, healthcare, technology, consumer goods, infrastructure, industrial manufacturing, energy, and resources.

Job Responsibilities

  • Build tailored work products and briefings to advise clients on geopolitical, economic, and regulatory risk factors that impact business interests in the Middle East, as well as markets around the world.
  • Develop work plans to set and accomplish strategic priorities for each client team and ensure the team is providing support on a daily basis in line with the client’s objectives.
  • Engage regularly with client points of contact on behalf of The Cohen Group and consult with Cohen Group leadership on client management issues.
  • Serve as a day-to-day point of contact with clients, including coordinating follow-up actions, providing progress updates, and sharing relevant information with clients and Cohen Group colleagues.
  • Direct primary open-source research and oversee the development of written products to provide clients with an understanding of how Middle East geopolitical, economic, and regulatory trends impact their global business.
  • Learn the important details of new issues quickly and become knowledgeable and credible with clients, including developing expertise on highly technical topics as relevant and required for certain clients.
  • Actively engage with and leverage Cohen Group Senior Counselors’ insights, experience, and guidance in support of the client’s objectives.
  • Travel domestically and internationally to client sites, major conferences and trade shows, meetings with government and industry stakeholders, etc. in support or on behalf of clients.
  • Provide mentorship, feedback, and coaching to junior colleagues and contribute to The Cohen Group’s firm-wide culture of collaboration.
  • Conduct outreach to relevant stakeholders in support of clients and in response to requests regarding their strategic decisions and day-to-day operations.
  • Design and execute events and policy discussions focused on the Middle East.

Key Skills

  • Proven expertise in the Middle East, with a deep understanding of the region’s political, economic, and social landscape
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills across a variety of sectors, regions, and issues
  • Experience working commercial issues with and/or for senior level executives
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, strong ability to build rapport with clients, colleagues, and stakeholders at all levels
  • Ability to work collaboratively on client teams and guide team action in support of an established workplan for clients
  • Outstanding project management, prioritization, and organizational skills
  • An equal commitment to excellence and humility and a passion for continuous learning
  • Ability to enthusiastically contribute to Middle East and non-Middle East focused client work across the firm
  • Strong work ethic and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Professional working or higher proficiency in Arabic is preferred

Compensation varies and is commensurate with skills and experience level.
Base salary for Associate Vice President: $130,000/year – $180,000/year
