The three discussed the progress of Iraqi reconstruction efforts. November 11, 2003 General Joseph Ralston and Secretary William Cohen hosted an event to honor NATO Secretary-General Lord George Robertson in Washington DC. The evening brought together U.S. Administration officials, members of Congress, business leaders, members of the diplomatic community and journalists for a farewell salute to the Secretary-General, who will conclude his service to NATO in December. October October 29, 2003 The Government Computer News and PostNewsweek Tech Media Company awarded Secretary William Cohen with the Government Computer News National Merit Award for Technology Excellence in Government in recognition of his "substantial and consistent contributions to government IT over a lifetime of service." This conference was the largest ever such event sponsored by the Government of Israel and was chaired by the Minister of Trade Ehud Olmert. The group demonstrated that peace in the Middle East is important for a secure and prosperous America. Speakers at the events included Commander Ami Ayalon, former head of the Israeli Navy and the Israeli Internal Security Agency ShinBet, and former Palestinian Minister for Jerusalem Affairs Sari Nusseibeh. October 20, 2003 The Honorable Kuti Mor, Director of Israel's Defense Mission to the U.S. was the guest of honor at a Washington policy dinner hosted by Secretary William Cohen. Israeli and American business leaders attended the event and exchanged views on regional political developments. October 10, 2003 Congressman Christopher Cox interviewed Secretary William Cohen on his television program Washington Report. The program features discussions with the nation's political leaders, opinion shapers, and policy makers. Congressman Cox is Chairman of the House Policy Committee and is the most senior Californian in the leadership of the House of Representatives. September 19-21, 2003 At the White Oak Plantation in Florida, Secretary William Cohen hosted The Leaders Project, a global conference of successor generation leaders from many key sectors of society. The conference brought together 40 leaders from North and South America, Africa, Asia and Europe for a series of discussions on Our Good Health And Prosperity: The Impact of Health on Economic Security. September 18, 2003 The Honorable Wolfgang Schäuble, Member of Bundestag and former leader of the Christian Democrat Union, visited Secretary Cohen in Washington to discuss U.S.-German relations and Germany's role in the Middle East. September 15, 2003 Secretary William Cohen, as Chairman of the U.S.-Taiwan Business Council, hosted the Semiconductor Industry Outlook 2003 conference in San Jose, California. The conference focused on the challenges and opportunities presented by the increasing economic integration of the U.S., Taiwan, and China semiconductor industries. Secretary Cohen held meeting with industry leaders including Dr. Morris Chang, Chairman & Chief Executive Officer of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company.September 4, 2003 Minister of Defense of the Czech Republic Miroslav Kostelka and Deputy Defense Minister for Reform Jan Vana hosted a dinner in honor of Secretary William Cohen in Prague. Secretary Cohen expressed his appreciation for Czech assistance in Operation Iraqi Freedom and discussed the reconstruction of Iraq. September 3, 2003 UK Minister of Defense Geoffrey Hoon met with Secretary William Cohen in London, touching on a wide range of issues related to Operation Iraqi Freedom and the global war on terrorism. Secretary Cohen thanked Minister Hoon for Her Majesty's Government's close cooperation and support of these important efforts. August 5, 2003 Secretary William Cohen delivered remarks to a luncheon organized by the Israel Policy Forum in Los Angeles, California on the prospects of peace in the Middle East and the war on terrorism. May May 21, 2003 General Joseph Ralston participated in BOLD SENTINEL, a strategic-level exercise designed by the Center for Strategic and International Studies to simulate problems likely to confront the U.S. National Security Council in a nuclear standoff with North Korea. General Ralston portrayed the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in the exercise intended to present the administration and Congress with strategic lessons learned in support of national security policy toward North Korea.May 14, 2003 Secretary William Cohen met with Jerzy Jaskiernia, Chairman of the Sejm Foreign Affairs Committee. The meeting focused on Poland's recent decision to become a leading contributor to the coalition in Iraq. Along with Britain and Australia, Poland was among Washington's firmest supporters during the US war with Iraq. Secretary Cohen thanked Chairman Jaskiernia for Polish support in Iraq. May 9, 2003 The University of Maine hosted Secretary William Cohen and former Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney for the 2003 William S. Cohen Lecture Series. Secretary Cohen introduced the Prime Minister, who spoke on U.S.-Canadian relations after Operation Iraqi Freedom, before an audience of students, business and political leaders.
