The Professional Services Council, a National Association representing the technical and professional services contractor industry, invited Secretary Cohen to deliver the keynote address at its combined Annual Membership and Board of Directors Meeting, an audience of over 100 senior executives of PSC's member companies.

General James Jones, the incoming Supreme Allied Commander of Forces, Europe, was honored at a dinner hosted by Secretary Cohen, at which the General discussed challenges that NATO will have to confront during his term in office. General Jones served as Secretary Cohen's Military Assistant at the Pentagon and will be the first U.S. Marine to assume the military leadership of NATO.

As part of an Empower America conference of Technology and Security, Secretary Cohen moderated a panel on the challenges of protecting U.S. critical infrastructure. Panelists included Floyd Kvamme, co-chairman of the President's Science and Technology Council; Phil Bond, the Under Secretary of Commerce for Technology; and Lin Wells, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for command, control, communications and intelligence.

Secretary William Cohen hosted the Leaders Project, a conference of successor generation leaders at the White Oak Plantation in Florida. The conference brought together 40 future leaders for a series of discussions on transitions in the Pacific Rim. In Moscow, Secretary Cohen chaired a Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) conference sponsored by the Nuclear Threat Initiative -- a group headed by Sam Nunn and Richard Lugar. This conference, which followed the Bush-Putin nuclear treaty signing, explored new efforts to safeguard and eliminate stockpiles of WMD.

Secretary Cohen, along with Messrs. Gebhard and Sebright and Ms. Rudman, traveled to Moscow, Amsterdam, Warsaw, Shanghai, and Tokyo on business. During this travel, Secretary Cohen met with ministers from a dozen countries including Senior Minister Lee Kwan Yew and Prime Minister Goh of Singapore.

Secretary Cohen and Messrs. Tyrer, Bodner, and Gebhard attended the annual Conference on International Security in Munich, Germany, known as Wehrkunde. Also in attendance were senior defense and foreign policy leaders from Europe, Russia, China, India and Pakistan. During the conference, Secretary Cohen discussed the future of NATO and European security in the context of global terrorism and expressed his concern about the growing gap in military capabilities between the U.S. and Europe.
